Duties and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for managing a caseload and carrying out multiple assignments in a very busy and fast paced work environment. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing complaints received by the department regarding licensed drivers and applicants whose ability to drive is questionable due to a mental or physical impairment and determining the best course of action. This position is authorized to analyze incoming medical reports and obtain additional medical records and laboratory reports for review by the Medical Advisory Board. This position is responsible for making sure recommendations are made in accordance with the Medical Advisory Board Guidelines and pertinent Florida Statutes. The incumbent is authorized to revoke the driving privilege of any applicant or licensed driver who has been determined by the Medical Advisory Board to be medically unsafe to drive. Lastly, this position is authorized to advise customers regarding requirements for reconsideration.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical disabilities that can directly affect driving ability
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and conditions
  • Experience in reviewing/ screening medical reports and identifying relevant information and making appropriate recommendations and/ or determinations
  • Skill in written and verbal communication
  • Skill in composing letters
  • Knowledge of driver license records
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Ability to research and apply problem solving techniques
  • Ability to work independently 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
  • A minimum of 2 years casework experience in a program involving adjusting, examining, investigating or processing claims; 2 years in customer service
  • Composing letters and tracking correspondence
  • Analyzing information and conducting research/investigating; proofreading, editing or verifying information for accuracy or compliance
  • Handling confidential materials
  • Working in a health-related field and/or 1 year of professional experience in a driver license program
  • Interpreting and applying rules, regulations policies and procedures
  • Associate’s degree or higher in a medical field from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical conditions
  • Fluent in Spanish. For credit in fluency, applicants MUST document their ability to read, write, and speak Spanish on the resume and/or applicant profile. Proof of fluency may be required at the time of interview

  • Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI
