I. Job Summary

Directs all aspects of designated line of business for Sustainability and Environmental Services (SES). Responsible for the management of business unit, related profit and loss, budgeting, business development, strategic planning, and oversight and management of personnel responsible for day-to-day operational execution, customer service, quality control and other tasks deemed necessary.

The position is layered by the complexity of the environmental business and customer operations, the maturity of the business, revenue responsibility and expected revenue growth. Responsible for $70 to $200 million in revenue and $3 to $10 million in EBIT with targeted annual growth based on industry conditions.

II. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Accountable for the development and maintenance of a safety conscious organization while providing oversight to ensure a safe work environment that complies with all regulatory requirements related to health, safety and the environment.
  • Develop and implement the long-term strategic plan for specified line of business (LOB), creating differentiation and ensuring the team will meet aggressive growth goals.
  • Actively involved in the sales process by partnering with National Accounts, Business Development and Areas to develop compelling value propositions, new business models or organic growth for new and existing customers.
  • Provides technical expertise in the development and implementation of sales and marketing strategies with a focus on cost-effective, practical solutions.
  • Responsible for the successful management of operations, related issues and enhancements through regular interaction with project managers, operating team and vendors.
  • Manage the financial performance of LOB to ensure achievement of profitability goals. Oversees profit/loss, receivables, pricing, invoicing, budgeting and related accounting activities.
  • Develops annual budgets, long-range strategic plans, and ensures through management levels the execution of internal growth targets and associated management reporting.
  • Responsible for the initial and re-negotiation of contracts with customers and vendors. Participate in quarterly and/or annual business review with customers.
  • Actively interfaces with WM Market Areas and Districts to ensure core services are properly maintained.
  • Ensures best practices and lessons learned are developed and suitably implemented across the organization to maximize efficiencies, extend the life of assets and produce consistent results.
  • Assists in the development of Managers and operating team while ensuring personnel training has been completed and properly documented and all applicable WM policies, procedures, and programs are implemented as required.
  • Conducts periodic safety meetings and safety/regulatory inspections.


III. Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of supervisory employees. This includes:

  • Direct supervision of approximately 3 or more full-time management level employees.
  • Indirect supervision of approximately 30 to 50 full-time employees.


IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

Must live and work in the U.S.

  • Education and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Business, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or related field, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience: Ten (10) years of previous experience managing large projects, growing a business and leading people (in addition to education requirement).
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
  • None required.
  • Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Well-organized, able to meet deadlines and maneuver through sales and contracting negotiations.
  • An entrepreneurial skill set is highly valued with the ability to creatively achieve stretch goals and provide value to customers.

Some travel will likely be required initially.

The expected base pay range for this position across the U.S. is $146,190 - $185,000. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
